A man in his early 20s is accused of robbing people at knifepoint after crashing a vehicle into another car in a parking lot in northeast Houston Tuesday night, according to the Houston Police Department.

Police said the incident began shortly after 9 p.m. when the man took a vehicle and crashed into another vehicle in the 6200 block of Nordling Road.

After the crash, the man got out of the vehicle with a bleeding cut to his stomach, police said. When people approached to check on him, he allegedly robbed them at knifepoint and stole their vehicle.

The suspect drove for a little more than 40 minutes before officers located the stolen vehicle near Keel Street, just before 10 p.m., according to police.

Officers conducted a felony traffic stop, but the man resisted and attempted to flee, police said. Officers used a Taser before taking him into custody.

Police said the man received immediate medical attention and was taken to a hospital in stable condition.

While inside the ambulance, the man reportedly made comments that he had stabbed himself. Officers also found blood inside his home. Investigators believe the stomach wound may have been self-inflicted, but the circumstances remain under investigation.

Police do not believe the suspect knew the people he allegedly robbed. No one else was injured.

The investigation is ongoing.
